If you’ve read The Hunger Games, you’re probably hoping and praying the movie does justice to the book by best-selling author Suzanne Collins. Don’t worry, we’re right there with you as the last thing we want to see is the movie version of a great book failing in its attempt to bring written art to the big screen.
As we await the March 23 movie premier, we’ve found other ways to keep ourselves distracted and occupied enough to make the two week wait slightly bearable. The film’s studio has created Capitol Couture, a website dedicated to all things Hunger Games. From wardrobe to hair and makeup, Capitol Couture is the destination if you wish to indulge in the eccentric lifestyle and fashion of the Capitol.

So far, three characters have been profiled: Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) and President Snow (Donald Sutherland). It’s nothing less than high-couture for the Capitol residents and Effie is not one to disappoint.
As the style icon of the Capitol and escort to District 12, she effortlessly prances around in the highest heels, the most elaborate outfits and an ever-changing variety of body polishes, hair styles and accessories.
The site references style inspiration from Rodarte, Thierry Mugler, Iris Van Herpen, Malgorzata Dudek, Rolf Buck, Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Dennis Diem, Dana Lorenz, Laquan Smith, Brioni and Heatherette. Well, that’s a mouthful of couture! Capitol Couture recently featured gold chainmail stockings designed by American designer Laquan Smith as inspiration.

The posts must be written by the Capitol’s resident social media manager or publicist because you would think the writer is experiencing The Hunger Games firsthand. A bit confusing at first but if you allow yourself to be transported into their world, they are waiting to welcome you with open arms.
