The Fendi Baguette Celebrates 15 Years of Iconic Bag Status

The iconic Fendi bag, known as the Fendi Baguette, is celebrating its 15 year anniversary.  How do bags celebrate their anniversaries?  Well, they release a memoir of course!

The Fendi Baguette book traces the evolution of the shoulder-candy from its debut in 1997 to present and features custom Baguettes by artists like Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst.  The illustrated book celebrates the Baguette and all of its endearing qualities from craftsmanship to connoisseurship.

Launched in 1997, the Fendi Baguette instantly became one of the most popular and most important accessories of the decade, holding its own among other “it” bags that followed.  Fendi received the Fashion Group International award for accessories in 2000 as a result of high demand for the Baguette.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s character on Sex and the City, Carrie, famously collected Baguettes and Fendi was actually one of the first design houses to loan items to the SATC girls.

Similar to its namesake, the Fendi Baguette is small enough to carry under one’s arm like a French loaf.  Over time, the Fendi Baguette has been produced in over 700 styles.  From simple and understated to unique and embellished with embroidery, sequins, beading, leather, fur, crocodile skin or precious stones.

In addition, in honor of the Baguette, the Italian label is re-issuing Creative Director Silvia Venturini Fendi’s six favorite styles.  Sounds like a rare opportunity to start a collection if the beautiful images in the book don’t do it for you.

Fendi Baguette is available for pre-order here.
