BCBGMAXAZRIA was one of the first shows to kick off New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. Models gracing the runway looked like Bauhaus paintings marching in a gallery…there was colorblocking galore and a bold, yet painterly feel to each of the pieces. I couldn’t help but compare the looks to something Margot Tenenbaum would have worn.
As far as texture and style, BCBG mixed some masculine with some feminine form. We saw straight line dresses, trenches and jumpsuits paired with furs and leather. Hair was kept sleek and parted to the side.
One tweet during the show referenced a late 1970′s discount clothing commercial entitled The Other Korvettes; and I can’t say I disagree. The ebony and ivory with the melange of colors, ranging from highlighter yellow to royal blue to that tangerine we love so dearly, mixed with 70′s pant suit neutrals all proved a proper tribute to the seven elements of art.
