JBCStyle, a full-service staffing agency with a focus on the fashion industry in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Orange County, hired Betsy Curtin as the company’s new recruiting manager for its Outdoor/Active Lifestyle group. I became a recruiter because… it felt right. In college I worked in career services helping my peers find jobs, and I was happy to parlay that into an actual career.
Favorite designer/label: Patagonia – keeps me warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Celebrity crush: Anthony Bourdain.
Favorite place in Scranton: One of our coffee shops.
Interview horror story: So many to tell! I’ve had candidates:
• Show up with their hair dyed with shoe polish
• Arrive drunk for a 9am interview
• Answer a cell phone in the middle of an interview
• Take off shoes during the interview
• Chew gum obnoxiously
• Answer questions with, “I’d rather not talk about my last job.”
Best interview tip: When the interviewer asks, “do you have any questions for me,” ask one.
Favorite accessory: My phone. Is that less accessory and more necessity?
If I could be an animal I would be … I wouldn’t be an animal. I feel this is a trick question for you to examine my psyche.
Dream vacation: Haleiwa, Hawaii. I’d love to spend 12 months and feel like a local.
Sweet or salty: salty.
In my spare time I… try to find a quiet place to recharge.
