This year, just in time for Fashion Week, RTW takes on a new meaning–Runway to Win. Fashion and politics rally together in support of Barack Obama’s reelection campaign and Anna Wintour is holding the reigns making this is a
runway show you can’t miss.
According to WWD, Vogue has enlisted 22 designers who will design items such as branded tees and bags to benefit the Obama Victory Fund. Items are expected to go on sale Thursday. The list of designers includes Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Rachel Roy and others.
Ambitiously called Runway to Win, the effort is a follow-up to the 2008 presidential campaign called Runway to Change. Anna Wintour, a dedicated supporter of President Obama, will host the Runway to Win fundraising event in February; just in time for Fashion Week.
Controversy is inevitable of course as designers may not want to alienate their non-Democratic customers; however, what’s fashion without a touch of controversy?
