Diane von Furstenberg Re-elected as CFDA President

This year’s Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards was filled with firsts, including a host who donned a dress and boxer combo worthy of a fashion police arrest and a live broadcast of the evening’s ceremony on Style.com. On the contrary, CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg is anything but a first timer. On June 11th, the fashion icon and president of the CFDA was selected by the council’s board to serve her fourth two-year term as president.

“Diane has done an excellent job as CFDA President. The time and resources she gives and the vision she has created is a huge benefit for our organization and industry,” Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, told Women’s Wear Daily.

This nomination isn’t von Furstenberg’s only CFDA honor. In 2005, the CFDA awarded von Furstenberg the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in fashion and her success of her global luxury fashion brand. Two years later, von Furstenberg stepped up as president to lead the organization in its mission of furthering the recognition of fashion design, advancing its artistic and professional standards, and promoting and improving public understanding and appreciation of the fashion arts.

Along with extending von Furstenberg’s term, the board also approved 26 new candidates for membership, bringing the total number to 427. This year’s group included recent CFDA winners including Joseph Altuzarra and Tabitha Simmons (below) as well as a host of other designers and stylists.
