No, “A New York Holiday” isn’t a hip-hop song collaboration with Jay Z rhyming as Barneys sings the hook; but, it is a pairing worth some hype. This holiday season, the luxury retailer and Shawn “Jay Z” Carter are partnering on a promotion that involves the hip hop mogul collaborating with an impressive list of designers on a collection of limited-edition holiday products.
Each brand worked with Carter on custom creations to be sold at the BNN SCC Gallery (Barneys New York and Shawn Corey Carter). Pieces from the collection are centered around the idea of New York from a creative perspective and inspired by Jay Z, a native New Yorker and successful musician and entrepreneur. His color scheme of choice includes white, black, silver and gold.
Items include a tailored jacket from Lanvin, a black leather backpack from Balenciaga, a printed scarf from Balmain, a hoodie from Rick Owens, and a leather duffel from Proenza Schouler (it’s important to note this is the first men’s bag designed by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for their label). Moncler, Hublot, Acne, Roc Nation and Just Don are a few more brands on the list that includes a well-rounded mix of designers, brands and indie labels.

Prices range from fairly reasonable – $70 for a Barneys cotton T-shirt – to pretty pricey – the Stutterheim coat will retail for $675. On the higher end, the Shawn Carter by Hublot 45 mm watch with black alligator straps, deployment buckle and yellow gold movement is going for $33,900. How’s that for a price range? Twenty-five percent of all sales will go toward the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.
The collection goes on sale Nov. 20 through Jan. 3 at barneys.com and the Barneys flagships in New York, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago.
